We’ll discuss whether the predominant development patterns have strengthened our towns or weakened them. Participants will be presented with thoughts on what make a Strong Town and discuss ideas for how their town can be made stronger.

Cover the key elements of an effective zoning administration program. Topics covered will range from the importance of consistent procedures to timely review of applications to providing applicants and the public with timely information.

Developing Effective Staff Reports

The main elements that go into creating an effective staff report for your Planning Commissions or Boards of Adjustment. We will discuss information that should be in every staff report, the importance of anticipating and answering questions wherever possible, strategies for presenting information and planning analysis and other relevant topics.

Planner Debate: Do Large Lot Requirements Help or Hurt Communities?

A debate to generate thoughtful discussion around the topic of large-lot zoning. What is a “large lot”? At what size is a lot a good or poor planning technique? What are large lots intended to accomplish and do they? What does “the market” want?
