Mission Township Comprehensive Plan Now Available

The Mission Township Comprehensive Plan adopted by the Mission Township Board of Supervisors on December 4, 2006 is now available via the Web at the link below.  This plan document is a text-only version so click on the maps and information link to the left of this page to view maps and information which will be added to the final comprehensive plan document.

Mission Township Board of Supervisors Adopts New Comprehensive Plan

On Monday, December 4, 2006, the Mission Township Board of Supervisors adopted a newly revised comprehensive land use plan.  Developed throughout the summer and fall of 2006, the plan includes components designed to strengthen community character, better manage population growth and land development, protect natural resources, manage recreation amenities and opportunities, and plan for future public services and facilities.  The plan also provides the Township with a new future land use map which guides the future use of land within the Township and a trails component which provides a framework for future recreational and access trails.  A full graphic version of the comprehensive plan document should be available in approximately two to three weeks from the date of adoption.

Community Meetings are a Success!
On Monday, November 6, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. many members of the community assembled at the Mission Town Hall to comment on the draft Mission Township Comprehensive Plan.  Comments on the proposed document called for more supporting information within the plan document, a revision of land use goals to include more specific information on implementation and ordinances, and for more editing and refinement of trails goals and strategies presented within the plan.  The Mission Township Planning Committee met on November 29, 2006 at the Mission Town Hall to discuss these revisions and refine the plan document in preparation for the December 4, 2006 meeting of the Township Board of Supervisors.

Through the community meeting held on October 4, 2006, members of the public helped shape the development of the Mission Township future land use map.  This map can be found under the Maps and Information link to the left of this page.

At the Community Visioning Session held Thursday, July 27, 2006, approximately forty members of the Mission Township community participated in providing their input on the future of the Township. 

Through a subsequent Community Strategy Session held on August 17, 2006, the Township drew on the knowledge and experience of the community to develop strategies to carry out community goals.  

Participants in all of these meetings included recreational residents or "weekenders" and seasonal residents, but largely consisted of year-round residents.
