    Larsmont Area Community Plan

In partnership with the Minnesota Environmental Partnership (MEP), the Community Growth Institute was retained in 2005 to facilitate a visioning process for the Larsmont community. The Larsmont Area Community Plan was completed in early 2006. The MEP has obtained a grant from the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation to support Larsmont residents in continuing to work on issues identified in the Larsmont Area Community Plan. The four areas for ongoing work include:

    • Facilitate further discussion about land use, growth and development issues and increasing community awareness of current planning and zoning regulations
    • Improve communications within the community, with elected officials and with Knife River. This could include development of more electronic options (list serve, website expansion), a newsletter, forums or other communications vehichle.
    • Explore options for development of a community association. Possible models are a lake association or a property owners association.
    • Improve consensus on wastewater treatment options for the area by bringing in assistance from the University of Minnesota's Onsite Sewage Treatment Program to help the community identify viable and affordable wastewater treatment choices. The grant does NOT include funding for site assessments.

A series of meetings, forums and workshops will be scheduled from October, 2006 - June, 2007 to accomplish the community's goals. Please click on the links below for more information on upcoming meetings or to view documents resulting from the Visioning Process. All documents are in PDF format and require the free Adobe Reader for viewing.
